We're usually protected from the big snows along the Connecticut shoreline, but this time we took the hit along with everyone else. 10+ inches up and down the coast. Unfortunately, that means all stonework comes to a screeching halt except for inside jobs like fireplaces. The other challenge is work in progress, like unset stone walls, runs the risk of settling prematurely with all the water from the melting snow.
Thin stone is a relatively new product that is great for covering old cement foundations or for an old brick fireplace. This wall was just completed in Branford, CT on a cement retaining wall to give it a fresh, clean and decorative look.

A pretty simple job just accenting the entryway with some decorative laid stone.

Was speaking with a prospective client about his new stonework and how we'd get it done over the winter months. Basically set a tarp up over the entire work area, try and seal it, and then add some heaters.
Of course I prefer not to work when the fingers might snap off, so with the Holidays fast approaching, give me a call to get a quote and try and complete your stonework before the new year.
This retaining wall was built from ledge rock that was removed for the foundation of the home on site. The wall is built without cement and backed with crushed stone to maximize water drainage. The cap layer of stone has cement to ensure no stones will fall when walked upon.
